Been working on this door game, it’s going pretty well getting closer to releasing it. It’s not really like any door game I’ve seen before, here’s a demo video from a month ago that shows the core mechanic is pretty much just my attempt to recreate NBA Jam in the terminal, with more success than I imagined:
A bit about the game and progess since then: been doing plumbing so the game supports live multiplayer and a robust single player mode (LORB - working title) that is inspired from as wide a range of games from Rampage as you travel from NBA city to NBA city on each new day of shared seasons mixed with a hint of Pokemon as you can only encounter special NBA players to join your crew in specific cities as you play streetball (i.e. you might find Larry Bird in Boston, or Indiana), then you can add them to your crew if you beat them in a game and play with them as you upgrade your character ala NBA 2K. And of course, it’s the best clone of NBA Jam you’ll ever play in your terminal. Play other players online or ghost matches against other players with AI controlling their rosters. League statistics and reputation tracked throughout season leading up to a live tourney with various layers of AI fallback to crown a champion. Champion gets to play some overpowered boss, and if they win they get bragging rights. Customizable skins and explicit sprites. Plenty of humor. Lots of rooms to insert ANSI assets. More stuff I neglected to mention cause it’s just standard door game stuff.

I guess that begs the question what do I need and what’s in it for you, the ANSI artist. Well specifically, for each city there’s a 40 x 20 ANSI graphic opposite a text panel that’s supposed to represent that city on the main menu each day with maybe some basketball and comedic flair that fits the game in the foreground. The game also has some 40 x 20 player panels, which I’ve already made some lousy art for and they appear in rumors. Maybe you want to rep your city, or draw your favorite player so they appear in game, maybe not - that’s not what I can offer. What I can do is turn you into an in-game character, and if you design a custom sprite + 40 x 20 headshot panel, we can plug you into the game someway so you look like an ultra-rare street baller and bar-fly who spreads rumors - rumors also kind of have a rival parameter, so if you wanted your rival to be Dennis Rodman or another ansi artist who contributes similarily players or a custom rumor, those things can be injected. The games got lots of stuff going on at this point.
There’s honestly a hundreds places of places where I can throw art in this RPG mode, and I just might, but I know there’s a billion people better than me at it. My hope is the door becomes popular, I designed it for people’s pleasure, so hopefully people will be pleased as they see your ANSI art, it sounds pleasant to me.
